How You Can Help Us

The second email I sent with news about Julie's brain tumor. I may revise a few things for readability (eg: links to pages may change).

Friends and family,

Julie has been in the hospital since last Friday, when she had several successive seizures. She has had neuro-surgery, and will be back in a regular recovery room where visitations are not as restricted this afternoon. The seizures have caused some memory loss: she does not remember her delivery day, and she does not remember finding out about the brain tumor. She has a very hard tome trying to find the right words to express herself, but I think she's gradually getting some of her vocabulary back. Her surgery went well, and she has remained in stable condition since then. You can get these details and others on my blog about Julie's brain tumor.

I'd like to offer brief (and therefore insufficient) thank you everyone for all your support. You might say I have one good problem: I have so much support, I can't keep it all organized. The other day, I said to one of the nurses: "I kept a list of people to thank for a while, but I can't keep up anymore - there's too many people... I think I'll just write a thank you note to the whole hospital". The same goes to all my family, and my friends. Thank you to everyone!

One more thing. I want to grow my own web development and hosting business, and possibly start a non-profit agency. These were ambitions before all this, but they are stronger now. Rather than just receiving monetary support, I prefer to do something in return, wherever I can. Consider this analogy: I love getting some fish, it'll feed my family - but I also love fishing, so maybe some fishing supplies will serve me better... I don't get as much self-satisfaction from just receiving gifts, though I do appreciate them, and my love for the giver grows. Perhaps people who want to help us can best help us by empowering me to help myself and my family. In other words, you can do this by letting me give in return something that can grow my business. I'm offering free webspace for at least 30 days. It may remain free if it spreads the word enough, and I start getting paid customers. If you wish to help me this way:

  • Let me know if you want a website, or even just server space upon which to host a site yourself.
  • I can provide [whatever-you-want].flfn.org websites for free. If you want [yourdomain.com] or [yourdomain.org], etc., I'll need $6 for one year.
  • Spread the word that you know a great webmaster and hosting provider.
  • If you want coaching on how to use a site that I've built for you, call me and schedule an appointment. Don't have my phone number? Ask me, or look in my addressbook.
  • I can do business sites with paypal functionality, family sites, and much more.
