On mother's day we celebrated our memories of Julie with a visit to her grave where we left notes, and we visited the Jordan River temple grounds, where we talked about Julie's new mission. Hiram made an insightful comment on how important it is to do temple work because if we didn't, the work Julie does doesn't mean much. Her work depends on our work, and vice versa.
As we headed home, the kids decided to play 'Fish in the Bowl', where one person sits in the middle (the fish in the bowl) and the others all say something good about that person. It was Hiram's idea to play it, and his idea that Julie should be in the middle. So, as we drove home, they said these memories of their mom and why they loved her:
Hiram: when you want to do something, she would try to get you a head start on it, like signing up for pottery and other classes, cooking, recipes for desert, and helping in the kitchen.
Avalon: fun playing with an Easy Bake Oven, help cooking, dance classes, and playing with her.
Benjamin: got a new rubber ducky each week when she went grocery shopping and brought him along. He had quite a collection. She read Pat the Bunny to him all the time, took care of him and loved him and helped teach him how to read before he was even in Kindergarten.
I noticed that day that I can feel close to Julie at her grave, and at the temple, but I feel closest to her at home.
